Devlog #1: Status and next steps

Fireworks Show Creator is a (lame) working title.  Suggestions gratefully accepted!

FSC does exactly what the name says.  I've had some extra time on my hands during the COVID lockdown and I'm anticipating that many Americans won't be able to enjoy the traditional fireworks shows that are synonymous with the Fourth of July.  So I decided to make a tool that would allow them to make - and possibly share - their own fireworks shows.  Select a song to set your show to, choose a background, and then begin placing fireworks along the timeline to set up your show.

Features:

  • Choose from dozens of different fireworks shells
  • Customize shell parameters like color, burst size, and so on
  • Fill the screen with fireworks by launching them from any one of five mortars
  • Choose from a selection of traditional fireworks musical accompaniments
  • Choose from a variety of backgrounds: country hills, city skylines, etc.

The game's core mechanics are more or less in place at this point.  I am working on bug fixes for those mechanics, polishing the user interface, and developing different types of fireworks shells.

My big question is how the user will be able to save and share their fireworks shows.  I could try a web-based export with a backend that saves' user's shows and generates a custom URL for them that can be shared with others.  Or I can create an executable that the user downloads and offer an option to export a video file.  Both apporaches are challenging for me.

Hoping to post a downloadable demo soon.
